Chasing The Sun - Spring 2003
We created five highly sensory installations for young people with a range of abilities. The spaces were inspired by poems from five different countries from around the world: Russia, Africa, Japan, India and Brazil. The writer’s words are particularly evocative; summoning distinctive tales, rhymes and myths from their respective cultures. Each space was designed to capture the sights, smells, tastes and sounds of these different countries by appealing to the children’s senses, allowing them to open up, to reveal and to discover. The children were guided on this journey by a mystical traveller.
“It was amazing and I know that the children are still talking about it.”
(Freda Mapson, Rosslyn Infant School, Nottingham)
Chasing the Sun brought children from two very different schools together; Shepherd School for special needs and Glenbrook Primary School. We wanted to enable the two groups of children to work together. This was a brilliant success and the project has helped to establish a long-term link between the two schools. |
